Where I Shop!

Below is a list of all my favorite online and local places I like to shop, and little reviews.

At the bottom I have a list of online shops I still am waiting to try out. If you've tried any of stores below, or have any questions please feel free to contact me. I'm also up for talking fashion and shopping!

Addition Elle - Canadian based retailer. This store has come a LONG way in the past couple of years. It now carries a little more trendy, fun clothing for the bigger woman that doesn't confine herself to shapeless clothing. While it is starting to be a little more on trend, it still caries lots of basics, and more conservative clothing to cater to a wide clientele. Also a great place for accessories. There are stores across Canada, and online shopping available.

ASOS - Love Love Love ASOS. They are a UK retailer that offers FREE (yes that's right FREE) shipping with no minimum. Their clothing is very much on trend, pricing is generally decent, and quality seems to fit the price. The Curve line is what they call the plus sized selection and there is always something good. They carry a very nice selection of belts in plus sizes. Their shoe and purse selection is pretty amazing too.

Carmakoma - Fabulous brand out of Denmark, chic and a little bit edgy. Shipping is reasonable, and the price vs. quality is quite good. Be sure and sign up for their newsletter, and watch for end of season sales. Their A/W 2012 collection is looking amazing!

City Chic - City Chic is super good for 2 things, camisoles, and lingerie. Both are amazing quality and fantastic fit. Prices aren't bad, but a few times a year they have huge sales. Their bras are the best I have ever owned. Free shipping, yep, free shipping. The quality of their clothing is really nice too, I have several dresses, and tops. This is an Australian brand, but shipped out of the USA. I hate to have to say it, but their shipping is no longer free. It still says it's free on their site, but that isn't the case. I actually had a rather nasty expereince with their customer service regarding the fact that I was charged for shipping. To me if you're saying it's free then it should be free (aside from customs fees and tax of course).

Cult of California - Workout gear that you will want to wear EVERYWHERE. Fabric and Craftsmanship is stellar at a very nice price point. Shipping is decent to Canada (and internationally), it's only $15 and they will ship is USPS is you prefer. Customer service is very quick, and nice to deal with. They have a chat feature on their website to help you with your order, it's very handy. Note on sizing, if you're tall like me (5'11) I'd size up in the pants if you're in between sizes.

Domino Dollhouse - Retailer out of the USA. Really unique clothing, a little funky, a little dark, and lots of fun. Their shipping is very reasonable, and customer service is great

Dorothy Perkins - Another great UK retailer. Styles range from trendy, to classic. This isn't really a "plus" size retailer, but sizes go up to a 22UK (about an 18US). Bonus is they have a selection of TALL clothing!!! Hu-zahhhh. :) Quality is quite good for the money, and shipping is reasonable.

ETSY - This is the best shopping resource. Great place for funky, custom clothing, and accessories. All handmade. Bonus is they have lots of fun ways to search for those items you didn't even know you wanted. Items from all over the world. Shipping rates will vary from seller to seller.

Forever21+ - Super trendy, and inexpensive. USA brand, but with a Canadian distributor. Basically what I would call "throw-away" fashion. The plus line seems to go thru spurts of awesome, so you have to keep an eye on it. Tip: If you see something you LOVE buy it now. Really great items sell out, and it's very rare you will see a restock. Fall usually brings in a couple great pairs of boots. Shipping cheap and CRAZY fast.

Hips and Curves - A lingerie company out of the USA. Really wonderful, and sexy stuff. Lots of sizes and styles to choose from. Shipping is a little expensive, and they ship via FedEx (boooo!), so something to keep in mind that brokerage fees might end up being quite high.

Penningtons - "Sister company" to Addition Elle, this store has come a long way as well. Similar styling as Addition Elle, but they seems to carry more basics (T-shirts, active wear, etc.). They also have a small selection of footwear. I will say that their seamless thong panty might be the greatest pair of underwear you'll even own.

New Look - Another UK retailer. (Yep the Brits seem to have it going on!). They carry regular and plus sizes, and a decent selection of tall items. Note that they plus range is call "Inspire". Clothing is trendy, and prices are middle of the road. Shipping costs are OK but it doesn't take too much to get free shipping.

Ruche - Vintage inspired clothing line out of the USA. The "curvy" line has been a little hit and miss lately, but they get the occasional gem. The shoes and accessories are always lots of fun, and unique. They have terrific customer service, and shipping is very reasonable. Note that these are "junior plus" so you might need to size up.

Sock Dreams - It's a fitting title. They carry the best selection of sock/tights. They range from basics to really funky, and all types of materials. There is a section for plus size, and all the items have great descriptions of fit and style. Cheap shipping to Canada too! High recommend this retailer!

Talbots - A mid to higher end selection of career wear, and formal wear. There clothing tends to be markets to a little bit older crowd, but don't let that turn you away if you're younger. There are some great skirts and dress, and also wonderful belts, shoes, and purses. I recommend joining their mail list so you don't miss some crazy sales they have. I don't think I've purchased anything from them for less than 60% off. They carry, standard, plus, petite, and some items in tall as well.

Torrid - I have a love/hate thing going on with them. Love the clothing (most of the time) HATE their shipping costs. I'm not sure about other parts of Canada but shipping starts at about $37 (that was what it came up as for a pair of earrings). It's ridiculous really. So when I travel to the states I usually visit the actual store if there is one close by. Otherwise, I only order from Torrid if there is a big sale and if I can get 2-3 other girls to share the shipping.

Someday these retailers will get some of my money...
